KYLE Howarth has sent a ‘count me in’ message to Leicester for 2021.
Howarth, who has been working in the building trade since the league season was cancelled, was back on a bike last month at the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena.
He came through with no ill effects after shoulder surgery seven weeks previously and raced at Belle Vue in the Peter Craven Memorial Trophy.
There has been concern raised by some club bosses around the country that the sport may lose some riders who will stick with their work started in the pandemic.
But Howarth is making his feelings clear – he wants to get back to regular racing.
He said: “Getting back on the bike was really good, it felt amazing. I missed it so much. You don’t realise how much you miss it when you’ve been out for so long - especially being off the bike for a year.
“The main goal for 2021 is hopefully the season kicks off at the right time. Hopefully things will improve and we can all go racing next spring.
“Leicester is a good club and I’m looking forward to racing for them, I know the owners really well through my Sheffield connections and I’m raring to go for April.”
All Championship clubs have signalled their intention to be at the tapes again next year and club bosses are already working on a potential fixture list. The promoters met on a zoom call this week.
In line with other sports like lower level Rugby League including the likes of Bradford Bulls and York City Knights, speedway is planning to launch the 2021 season in April subject to fans returning to venues. Behind closed doors racing is not an option although a live streaming service proved popular in the Belle Vue events.
A provisional fixture list will be discussed soon as well as the draw for the Knockout Cup.
